I read a quote by David Allen 'You can do anything but not everything', which I can very much apply to myself, I have wanted to try a lot of design processes and crafty things but in the end I don't think I would be that good at any of them.
In the past I have purchased some tool or piece of equipment used it a few times then lost interest
because it is not exactly what I wanted. So I have started thinking and asking myself certain questions.
Do I have time for this? With my other crafts and responsibilities will this be used often or take too much time to learn?
Do I have space for this? If your lucky enough to have a big craft space - great (and I'm jealous) if not you have to be organised and it does limit what you can have in a way. My space is quiet limited so larger items have to be packed away after use sometimes.
Is this an investment? Some craft items are expensive, I have a Silhouette Cameo which is expensive but the applications can be limitless with all the different materials that can be used with it, as well as being able to draw with certain files. Another example is a MISTI tool (for stamping its expensive but it has improved my stamping loads)
Now I have started to research a lot more and think of other ways I can apply this to my current hobbies. Looking at reviews and videos to see what other people think, if they are doing a demo its great to see how it works, what they have to say thats good and bad, and they may have ideas you have not thought of to use it in other ways.
There are a number of crafts I have tried and will keep doing as they are personal to me, my nan taught me to cross stitch, its something that I find very relaxing (hours can pass with out me realising it) and its a way I will always remember her. Card making is another hobby, which is still pretty new to me.
Recently I have started with digital design, thanks to this blog, I was looking for 'things' to make my blog unique but realised its not unique if I am using other peoples work - so went a head and started designing my own. See the social buttons - yup I made those... I am definitely a novice in this area, but so far really enjoy exploring the design possibilities.
